How long?

Yes, we’re in Iraq because we wanted to bring a free and open society to the Middle East as well as depose a megalomaniacal dictator (wink, wink). Of course, lower prices for gas at the pumps was just a small ancillary benefit we’d all enjoy as we’re tooling around in our SUV’s running errands by ourselves. It would be especially kind to those of us who were childless masters of the universe trying to make sure everyone got a glimpse of our ostentatious display of wealth and success.

but wait...

You say the price of gasoline at the pump is actually increasing?!?!? How can this be? We paid for that cheap gasoline with the lives of young American men and women!

I’m just curious how long the status quo will continue before we see the kind of big demonstrations that happened before they sent troops into Iraq - it’s coming. I have no doubt about it. Unless the administration is prepared to make a grand, sweeping gesture and begin reducing the number of troops serving in Iraq dramatically, I can’t help but think that as the price of a gallon of gas rises, even the people who agreed with the administrations decision will start to look up and take notice.

Do you find yourself becoming increasingly inured to the daily reports of bombings and loss of life? It appears there is a daily report of people losing their lives in a cycle of violence that doesn’t seem to be abating. Maybe the number of bodies coming back in body bags isn’t the number to make people sit up and take notice, maybe the important number is the price of a gallon of gas at the pump. Says a lot about us as a nation, don’t you think?
